VERSUS FIGHT NIGHT 18
What went down at Heartfelt Arena?
The air in Pretoria was thick with anticipation. You could feel it in the way the crowd hushed for the grappling exchanges and exploded for the finishes. This wasn't just another event; it was a changing of the guard.
1. The Heavyweight Standoff (NC)
Arnold Cleophas vs. Jaco George The night started with a collision of giants, but ended in frustration. At 2m 4s, an accidental low blow left George unable to continue. A No-Contest is a bitter pill for both, but it sets the stage for a massive rematch.
2. The Hype Extinguisher
Sphamandla Olifant def. Cole Adams (UD) Adams (2-0) entered with all the momentum, but Olifant (3-3) reminded everyone why experience matters. A clinical 30-27 shutout across all cards. Olifant simply wouldn't let Adams get into gear.
3. The Teen Prodigy’s Debut (Amateur)
Dominick Aoun def. Musa Shabalala (UD) At just 18 years old, Aoun looked like a veteran. He completely neutralized Shabalala over three rounds. To pitch a perfect 30-27 game in your debut is almost unheard of. Has the "Aoun Era" started?
4. The Razor’s Edge
Justin Thomas def. Festus Djuulume (SD) The most debated fight of the night. One judge saw it as a 30-27 masterclass for Djuulume, but the other two leaned toward Thomas (29-28). This was a high-level tactical war that proved both men belong in the title conversation.
5. The Rheeder Express
Ethan Rheeder def. Sam Kabeya (Sub - RNC) Rheeder is a problem. He needed just 1m 34s to find Kabeya’s back and lock in the choke. He moves to 3-0 and remains one of the most efficient finishers on the roster.
6. The Veteran’s Lesson
Braydon Graham def. Hanief Diljan (TKO) Diljan brought 12 fights of experience, but Graham brought the heat. A Round 2 TKO (2m 47s) showed that Graham is ready for the division's elite.
7. The Bantamweight Blitz
Thapelo Malatjie def. Jabu Kham (Sub - RNC) In a battle of 6-win veterans, Malatjie (now 7-1) showed why his grappling is feared. He weathered the Round 1 storm and secured the choke at 1m 21s of the second.
8. Shadowshot’s Trap
Slade Shadowshot def. Steve Damon (Sub - Armbar) Shadowshot (4-0) is a human highlight reel. He lured Damon into a scramble and snatched an armbar in just 2m 32s. It was textbook, lightning-fast, and moved him deeper into the Welterweight top tier.
9. The Anaconda Squeeze
Joshua du Toit def. Frederik Eloff (Sub - Anaconda) The Co-Main Event was a display of "Heavyweight Jiu-Jitsu." Du Toit secured a rare Anaconda Choke in only 1m 9s. A finish that fast in the big-boy division is a terrifying sight for future opponents.
10. The Catchweight Clinic
Josiah Obasi def. Joël Tiffo (UD) Obasi moves to 3-0 after a grueling 15 minutes. Tiffo was game, but Obasi’s volume and cage control earned him a dominant decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).
11. 🏆 THE "UNICORN" FINISH
Oneal Thompson def. JJ Karagiannidis (Sub - Baseball Choke) The Main Event. Thompson (4-0) against a 20-fight legend in Karagiannidis. Everyone expected the veteran to grind out a win, but at 0:53 of Round 3, Thompson shocked the world. He locked in a Baseball Choke—a submission so rare it's considered a "unicorn" in MMA. To pull that off against a veteran of JJ’s caliber is legendary. Thompson is now 5-0 and the talk of the town.
